Rail data, including rail data interoperability, is tackled by a number of organizations active in the rail domain, covering the full spectrum from private to public bodies and EU institutions. Data integration activities for sharing iinformation about network topology account for 50 to 70% of the engineering hours. This is due to the fact that there are no harmonized data models and no harmonized interfaces defined. Moreover, it is noted that these data integration activities have to take place over and over again on a regular basis during the life cycle of the rail network maintenance. The lack of automation of this data integration activity could also trigger potential safety breaches.
Build an automatic compatibility verification system for train vehicles and railways using data from the European Union Agency for Railways and network operators from the member states.
