Query Optimization using WebGL

WebGL (Web Graphics Library) is a new Web technology that allows Web browsers to execute logic using the GPU, such as image processing and shader implementation.

Query execution over large datasets is typically a very CPU-intensive process. In recent years, increasing research is being done to investigate how query execution can be implemented or improved using the GPU.

So far, no one has yet looked into how query execution within the Web browser can be improved using the GPU via WebGL. In this thesis, we will look into investigating new algorithms that allow (partial) query execution using the GPU. Furthermore, the student will implement these algorithms, and existing ones into the Comunica JavaScript query engine.
