CERN knows KNoWS

On March 13 and 14, 2023, Ruben Dedecker and Patrick Hochstenbach of our team visited CERN to present two lectures for the "2nd Series on Data Protection" event. Ruben presented a lecture on Solid and Linked Data. Patrick presented a lecture on the using Linked Data and Solid for scholarly communication. CERN has a long tradition of promoting open standards and open source software. Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web at this institute, the institute hosts for many years the OAI-PMH conference on Open Access publishing and their own open source repository software product Invenio is used world wide by many institutes.

Patrick and Ruben are standing next to each other in a meeting room. They are both looking at the camera and smiling.

The CERN lectures were live broadcast on the Web and followed by many dozens of viewers worldwide. After the presentation a lively discussion started on Web security, concerns for new forms of centralization (the World Wide Web also started as an open permissive publishing platform), and new models of peer review.
