Marlin Kisia joins KNoWS
I'm Marlin Kisia. I joined as a PhD student in December 2025,
building on a path that started with linked data and knowledge graphs during my time at
Wageningen University, Netherlands.
After completing my master’s in Biophysics at Universidad de Zaragoza (Spain),
I found myself drawn to the challenge of making data systems accountable: where provenance, clarity, and
interoperability are foundational.
Now, as a member of KNoWS, I will be focusing my research on the development of frameworks that
effectively bridge the divide between technical systems and the trust they are intended to foster.
I am fortunate to be undertaking this work under the supervision of Dr. Beatriz Esteves, and
I look forward to collaborating with and learning from my colleagues in the group.
In my spare time, having spent years grafting trees as a home chore, has becoming something of a hobby,
as well as curating playlists that span genres, decades, and even the echoes of particular moments.
There is a certain rhythm to both pursuits: the right conditions, a measure of patience, and,
occasionally, a refusal to conform to expectations.
I suppose this is rather how I approach research as well.
A quick note: I tend to avoid the camera
(perhaps a remnant of the biophysicist’s inclination to observe rather than be observed),
so you are unlikely to find many photographs of me. Rest assured, however, that I do indeed exist.
And if you’ve ever successfully grafted a lemon tree, I’d love to swap notes.
Looking forward to the conversations ahead.
